Special Collections

Welcome to Special Collections & Archives

Loyola campus circa 1925

Special Collections and Archives preserves materials related to the history of Louisiana and to the South, to the Society of Jesus, and the history of Loyola University New Orleans. The collection derives much of its identity from its Jesuit holdings, which include the Archives of the New Orleans Province of the Society of Jesus and the personal papers of notable Jesuits.

This Jesuit identity, reflected in Loyola’s curriculum, laid the foundation for the collection’s expansion into such diverse areas as social justice, environmental activism, public affairs, literature, and the arts.

The department's collection development policy may be viewed here.
